I think some of my tips for making lovely cards are:
You don’t have to have lots of craft supplies to make a lovely handmade cards.
You also don’t have to be a brilliant artist to make a handmade card- sometimes even simple cards are effective and always remember that the person receiving your card will love it whatever it looks like.
Pinterest is full of great ideas for simple card design ideas. That app will truly become your best friend and you can alter the card design to the preferences of the person you’re writing to, such as using their favourite colours or animals.
Washi tape is really good for making simple but effective cards. You can cheaply buy a set of it from craft stores or online (plus washi tape lasts you ages).
Iris folding is also a really simple but effective craft that’s very low-energy to do. You can use the colours or shapes to suit the person you’re sending too. For example I had someone who liked rainbows, so I sent them a rainbow iris folding card in their favourite colours.
You can also print out a design of something that your sender likes (or draw it) and stick it on a card and colour it in. You can hand write a personalised message.
Going back to Pinterest- that has lots of ideas on hand lettering too so you could make a card with a hand lettered message and then decorate the blank space with stickers.
Colour in stickers make great cards too.
Sometimes just getting creative inspired by something on the sender’s profile and make it up as you go along is also an idea and something I do. I just let my imagination guide me.
